Notes for 'Isreal Sr. Keen: Israel, Josiah and Mathias Sr took the Great Valley Road out of Berkeley County and traveled southwest into present day Greenbrier County West Virginia in the late 1780's. They settled in Wolf Creek, a small community that became part of Monroe County in 1799. Although Mathias was still listed in the Landowner records for Berkeley County into the 1790's, it has not been established whether another family member held that land until it's sale, or Mathias Sr. remained behind in Berkeley County and Mathias Jr. was actually the one who settled in Greenbrier County. Hopefully, further research will conclusively determine the events. m. (2) BETSY ROBINSON, February 13, 1796, Botetourt Co. VA; b. 1775; d. Aft. 1830, Russell Co. VA.
