Notes for 'Susannah Miles: Susannah's marriage license said her mother was Elizabeth Fletcher and she had no natural father. She seems to be the only child in this family who did not use the Arnett or Fletcher name. Instead she used Miles, the maiden name of her mother. Perhaps Elias Arnett was not really her father?

Obituary:

Sarah E. Moss, daughter of Carl and Mary Moss, was born in Marion County, Missouri, February 14, 1827. She moved with her parents when 15 years of age to Macon County. She was brought up in the Presbyterian faith and lived a worthy Christian life. At the age of 18 years she was united in marriage to Samuel Raney. They were a couple who moved frequently, twice the y made their home in Iowa, once in Kansas and one child, Arch, was born there, the other children were all born in Macon county. They crossed the state of Missouri four times before settling 35 years ago, about 9 miles northeast of here where they lived until Mr. Rainey died over 11 years ago. After that time she made her home alternately with her daughters, Mrs. Nancy Henry and Mrs. Geo. W. Shelton. She was the mother of eight children as follows: Thomas who died in childhood; Mary Magee of Interprise, Ore.; Wm. C. / Nancy Henry, Selah Shelton, John Raney and Arch Raney all of this county, and Sadie Sullivan of Leroy, Iowa. All of her children were with her during her last illness with the exception of Mrs. Magee. At the time of her death, which occurred February 15, 1917, she was 90 years and 1 day old and kept the use of her mind until the last. We were all especially glad that during her last illness she d id not suffer but gradually grew weaker until she fell asleep. After singing and prayer she w as laid to rest in the Hartford cemetery, beside her husband to await the resurrection morn.
