Welcome To Michigan
Page 3 Pictorial Tour

At the northern tip of the lower peninsula we come to two of our favorite sites, one is the Mackinac Bridge, twin towers rise 552 feet above the water of the Straits of Mackinac linking the two peninsulas. A state park on the lower penisula side offers a beautiful view of the bridge including the lights at night.

On the Lake Huron side of the bridge you will find Mackinac Island. No autos allowed you get around by foot, bicycle, or horse (carriage or riding). Points of interest on the island include: Fort Mackinac, established by the British in 1780, the Astor house served as the headquarters for the American Fur Company, and the Grand Hotel, built in 1887 if you are a movie buff you will reconize the Grand as the setting for Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour in "Somewhere in Time"
