"The
Poem"
or
"My Testimony - The Condensed Version"
by Faith Draper 'March 2004'
For so many years
I wandered through life.
Searching for happiness,
But finding only strife.
Why was it that others,
Found such great joy.
But for me nothing,
Seemed to fill that void.
The book with the answers,
Was right there for years.
But I didn't read with earnest
Until the death of someone dear.
My eyes and my heart
Were shown the light.
Believe in the Lord Jesus
And live my life right.
I asked for forgiveness
For all of my wrongs.
I was given new life
And helped to grow strong.
The emptiness is gone,
I've found love, joy and contentment.
He's my comforter and protector
My guide and encouragement.
Now my life is full
Of the truth from the Bible.
And my Father in Heaven
Has no other rival.
I've
also written down a few things that I'd like to
share about this poem.
I think Pastor Earl put it best after he read it
and I shared what had happened. "Hidden
Gifts? An inspired moment? A special blessing? Or
all of the above!"
A hidden gift because I have never attempted to
write a poem and didn't intend to the night I
wrote this. When I first wrote my testimony it
was nearly 3000 words and someone suggested I
shorten it a bit. So, late one night I started
jotting down highlights of my testimony and the
words just happened to come out the way they did.
I didn't realize what I was doing until the 5th
or 6th line when I read what I had written and
thought it sounded like a poem I decided to just
keep writing because it was obvious to me someone
else was helping with this project.
An inspired moment because through this poem I've
been able to connect with someone very dear to me
who doesn't know where she stands with the Lord.
But being a poet herself it was easy to ask her
opinion and advise concerning it and at the same
time to see a seed planted.
This poem has been a special blessing because the
day after I wrote it before leaving for work I
printed it off and stuffed it in my pocket. I
didn't know why but figured there had to be a
reason for doing this at 5:30 in the morning.
When I got to work co-worker shared with me that
she was feeling bad about something that happened
the night before. I reached in my pocket, pulled
out "The Poem", and asked her to read
it. After she did she said it was just the
reminder she needed. We both shed a few tears and
together thanked God for our salvation and for
forgiving us when we mess up.

version" of my testimony it's still
