Ok, this is another one of my "silly
pages"
but wow did I get some terrific advice.
If you have a "Flea Problem" I highly
recommend you read the following. If you don't
have a flea problem I still suggest reading on -
you never know when a friend, neighbor, or family
member may need help and at the same time see
what happens when a bunch of brothers and sisters
in Christ help a sister out!
Praise Report: Thank you Blessed Father for
sending my brothers and sisters to help during
this time of need and frustration.
See update report further down page!
flea
Pronunciation: 'flE
Function: noun
: any of an order
(Siphonaptera) of small wingless bloodsucking
insects that have a hard laterally compressed
body and legs adapted to leaping and that feed on
warm-blooded animals
Note: the picture above has been greatly
enlarged.
My dear Brothers and Sisters,
Has been weeks it seems since I've been in
correspondence :( Have been reading what I can
(particularly prayer requests and praise reports)
but must admit there have been times I've just
not had the energy to even open some of the mail.
The hot humid weather has drained me of what
energy I've had, add to that the job for the
school, unpacking, inventorying, and setting up
300 computers has killed me. PTL am just about
finished with that :) Of course with that also
goes much needed money but know God will provide
even better if it's His will.
I know this may seem like a strange request but
LOL - since when am I ordinary:) This is one of
my greatest concerns right now. My house has been
over run with fleas :( I'm talking 1000s! I've
sprayed, bombed, dusted, bathing my poor dog
almost daily and still can't walk threw the house
without being attached : ( Does anyone know any
"home remedy" "cheap" cures
for this problem? The professionals want $175 to
fumigate and I don't have that kind of money -
opps don't have any money once I pay my house
payment, phone, and electric :) It's really
frustrating because I am about to start a new
home business but am embarrassed to have anyone
over to my house right now with this
"problem" - little critters from satan!
One thing I have done is sat a casserole dish of
water with a few drops of dish soap in it on the
floor. Then put a light over the dish and the
fleas seem to jump toward the light but fall in
the water and die :) Sounds cruel but I have got
to get rid of these things - I did ask them
nicely to leave first but they seemed to only
invite their families in :(
Love you all so very much and praying to soon be
back active again.
Blessings to you, faith
I emailed my online friend who is an exterminator
and here is his reply:
She needs to vacumn the house daily including the
couch etc and the one mistake most people make is
they don't throw out the vacumn bag after each
use when you vacumn and put it back in the closet
the fleas are still in your house burn the bag
after each use b4 you fog, vacumn and get the bag
out of the house not the wife the vacumn bag.

Dear...dear
sister...I pray you had some responses to your
request. I wouldn't have a clue as what to do,
other than what you've already done in the form
of home remedy. Not cruel to kill the little
critters as they are uninvited guests...lol. Pray
you've been able to find a solution. One time
that happened...but we managed to get the dog
defleaed (?) and then had to clean the house from
top to bottom with Lysol, but think you have way
more than we did.
Love in Him, and hugs, Sylvia
lol on the new families that were invited by
satan..sorry but I thought this was to
funny..been there and done that...lol Ok by the
time you have spent all of the money that you
did, you would have been better getting and
exterminator to do the job. This is what I did
when I had them and it cost me a bunch..went to
the vet and I bought some kind of spray that I
had to use in the house and then use some kind of
fumagation outside..as long as you have it
outside you will not get rid of them..you have to
vaccumm your floors then spray this stuff and I
think you have to wait awhile..don't know if its
days or hour before you vaccum again and then you
have to do this again in two weeks but it
works..my daughter was infested with these little
vermits and they had to get an exterminator cuz
it cost them a fortune with all kinds of stuff
off of the market..sorry but this may be your
only way out..good luck and God bless.
Love and Hugs, Debbie
Sounds awful!! LHLS prayer warriors, lets
agree in prayer for those little critters in
Faith's house to be removed!!!! They can be an
awful nuisance!!
Blessings, Sue
Do
what Dee said too..don't forget to throw
away the vaccum bags or burn them..cuz
they are still alive and can get out..but
you also need to ask the vet what you
need to use..thats what i did an it saved
me..my daughter it didn't cuz she was
infested with it...GOOD LUCK CUZ YOU'LL
NEED IT..LOL and I will be in prayer for
you pesty little varments to leave..:-)
Love and Hugs, Debbie
Faith, My suggestion was to add some
bowls of salt around the house, that
works too. Also salt your carpets, leave
it for a day, then vacuum, salt again,
vacuum again.
That will help get rid of the eggs.
Wyndyc
Sue and all, thank you so much for
rallying the Warriors around me - feeling
protected right now, haven't had a
critter jump on me for over an hour now
:) Do still have the "trap set"
though and will try a suggestion or 2
tomorrow :)
Blessings to you, faith
Hello dear Faith,
Ok, now for the fleas. My youngest
daughter Stacy has 11 dogs and 3 cats.
Stacy is a professional dog groomer and
she shows her dogs in dog shows all
around the country. Stacy does not have
fleas, nor any dog odor at all in or
around her house or her shop.
You have to treat your yard as well as
your house. If you treat the house only
the dogs will go outside into the grass
and just bring more fleas right back in.
Every 30 days: You should use Duraban or
Ortho weed and insect killer granules in
your yard. Be sure to read the label and
make sure it is the one that says it
kills fleas too. These granules are time
released and they retreat your yard for
30 days being watered by rain, the hose
or just dew. Do not use liquid. It must
be granules. You can purchase these from
any farm products or tractor supply store
and even some hardware stores and
possible even Walmart.
To spread these use a spreader if you
have one. If not, poke holes in the
bottom of empty milk cartons and use a
throw away funnel to fill the cartons.
Place the lids on and walk through your
yard shaking the milk cartons spreading
the granules over every inch of the
grass.
Spray your trees, shrubs, with 1/2 water
and 1/2 Dawn, Pomolive, or Joy dish soap.
This only lasts for a short time so
repeat this at least once a week for a
while. This will kill fleas, larva and
eggs also. (Never use this on the grass
as it will not do the job. The grass must
have the granules).
If you have bird feeders. Remove them for
now, as they also breed fleas.
Wash all dogs in 1/2 Dawn, Joy, or
Pomolive Dish soap and 1/2 water also.
Rinse the dogs very, very well.
Next wash your laundry the same way with
very hot water (if possible), and double
rinse.
Call 1-800-NESERUM Wholesale Pet Supply
and tell them the square footage of your
house. Order the amount of Flea Stop
Foggers they will tell you that you need
to set off in your house, plus one extra.
These will work. The ones in the stores
do not work. This is wholesale price that
they will charge you, not retail.
If you treat the yard and house and dogs
and laundry, you will get rid of them and
if you continue to treat your yard you
will not have the dogs bringing them back
in again. The fleas will be gone once and
for all.
My daughter has begun a website, but does
not have enough Christian content yet to
join LHLS.

Lots of hugs and God bless, Alberta
Brother, I hear ya! We rescued a stray
kitten from beside a very busy roadway
here in SW Houston a couple of months ago
and she was CRAWLING with great big old
fat fleas. Understand here that I have
been allergic to cats all my life: it was
only the Spirit of compassion within me
that moved me to chase the little critter
down through the surrounding
bushes...anyway, the Lord has put the
allergy away from me, so praise His Name!
Before we could get to the store to buy
flea shampoo, some of the interlopers
leaped to our carpet and iniated a
guerrilla campaign against our legs and
feet. So, we did on our own what that
exterminator suggested to you AND IT
WORKED. We have no furniture other than
our bed (long story - won't burden you
with that), but we did vacuum the carpets
throughout the apartment with a powerful
flea-killing powder and I did toss the
vacuum cleaner bag. No more fleas.
By the way, I have done a few of those
hundred+ PC moves/installations in my
day. You know where everybody else goes
home on Friday evening and YOUR weekend
is just beginning. Come Monday morning,
everybody comes to work to their new
cubicle and the file servers and PCs had
BETTER be working or else! The Lord gives
you great success in your efforts, Shane.

Faith,
I've heard, (haven't tried it myself), to
sprinkle borax on the carpet and let it
sit for several hours, overnight. If you
try it, please let me know how it works.
: )
Love and hugs, God bless, Cylinda,
Also cedar chips in your yard will run
them...all kinds of pest...ants to..they
will even run snakes...Joy dishsoap will
kill them off the animals.
Faith,
So glad to hear from you! I was wondering
where you were!
At this time last year I had the same
problem with fleas and did the same stuff
you did, sprayed, bombed, bathed my cat
often, etc. It did take an exterminator
to finally get rid of them! What you are
doing with the soapy water on the floor
under a light is good, the exterminator
suggested we do that too because it would
take awhile for all the fleas to die off.
Also, here is an old home remedy that
people swear by, get some 20 Muleteam
Borax and put in it some kind of shaker
and shake it all over the carpet and
leave it there for a few days until you
vaccuum next. We did that here too and it
seemed to help.
Plus, if you don't get any flea control
stuff from the vet for your dog, do so.
None of what you can get over the counter
is really any good, I found that out the
hard way! But if you get Advantage or
Frontline from the vet the fleas will die
off of your pet.
Lastly, be patient. :-) It will take
weeks for all the eggs they have laid to
hatch, so they will still be around for
awhile. But if you try what I said and
vaccuum often, throwing away the bag each
time you are done (fleas will live in
there and come back out!) eventually they
will be gone. Hope this helps.

"He that dwelleth in the secret
place of the most High shall abide under
the shadow of the Almighty." Psalm
91:1 (KJV)
Hey Faith..........
go to the grocery store and get you a
couple of boxes of 20 Mule Team Borax.
Sprinkle it fairly heavily on the
carpets, then take your broom and sweep
it in, so that it gets down into the
"nap" of the carpet. Leave it
on there for 3-4 days, vacuum and repeat.
I PROMISE....this kills the fleas! I've
had these cats for almost 19 years and
other than the one time I've had a flea
problem, I've never had another one. Who
told me about this remedy?? A Pest
comtrol man! No kidding ;o)
Peggy Lynn
You know something Peg, when my mom told
me about the 20 Mule Team Borax thing, I
didn't believe her! hehehe. I was working
at our local Wal-Mart as a cashier at the
time and there was a book about cats at
the check out so I bought it. There was a
section on it about fleas and it had the
same suggestion in it and swore that it
worked! If I ever have the problem with
fleas again I will try that BEFORE
calling the exterminator. :-)
Hi Faith:
I'm laughing because this scenario is all
too familiar to me as I watched my
parents chase and try to kill the insects
that kept roaming the house. My father
got angry one day and stated "This
house is spotless. Where are those things
coming in from?! If I find out..."
He never did finish that statement. He
and my mother had an insect expedition.
He cut down every tree growing a couple
inches away from our house. He sprayed.
He bombed. Mom used raid. She vaccummed
and she dusted. She mopped. She screamed.
She shouted. All to no avail. Their dog,
Froline, was just as frustrated. Got
tired of having baths. Froline started
killing anything that inched across the
floor. I laughed at my parents. Dad was
relentness and fumigated the sides of the
house, every nook, crack, hole. He
sprayed this insecticide everywhere.
Nothing and no one was safe from Dad's
sprayer. He was as ornery as they came.
It was professional exterminating agent
that he used, but it didn't work. He
almost fell off the ladder in the
process. Everytime my parents think about
this period of time, they just laugh.
The little critters went away on their
own. Not that that's any consolation.
Maybe your little critters will take
flight to some other destination
Lots of Laughs, Linda
ROFL! Linda I was sitting here picturing
this, what a hoot! You're real good with
describing things so we can actually
picture it. Thanks for the laugh! Peggy
Lynn
I did also receive some information from
the local exterminator: According to
them, flea eggs can survive unhatched for
weeks - they need the sent of
"blood" to "wake"
them up. It was suggested not to leave
house unoccupied after treating for fleas
because if you do then the eggs will only
wait for you to return home to hatch :(
Update Report: After only 24 hours of
combining a few of the
"cheaper" suggestions above I
can now walk threw my house and at most
am being attached my only 3-4 critters
instead of the 50 or so just 2 days ago
:)
I did purchase a box of Borax ($3.49), as
I only have carpet in my livingroom and
hallway I went with one box and that
seemed to cover the floor nicely as well
as sprinkled some under the cushions on
my sofa and loveseat. I then sat bowls of
salt in the bedrooms and kitchen ($.59).
Was blessed to already have a cedar bed
for the dog to sleep on - which she
seldom does but insisted on it now. She
is this moment resting peacefully for the
first time in weeks on "her
bed" just a few feet from my desk.
I also kept the soapy water/light flea
trap going.
Please note that over the prior 2 weeks I
spent $18 on flea bombs, approx. $10 on
sprays for the dog, another $10 on flea
shampoos. Also $25 to rent a steam carpet
cleaner (figured that would kill and suck
up the critters). The results of that $68
was the fleas were worse than ever and
Chaffon was so infested she was chewing
her hair off trying to get the fleas off
her.
The following are new
suggestions sent in by Amy from Westport.
I haven't tried them but might help
someone else in the future.
"Comments: In reference to your
request on fleas, here are some
suggestions...hope they help and I pray
the Lord will give you wisdom in this
area.... Are you worried about the
effects of chemicals on your dog? Why not
make your own safe, non toxic flea
repellents? "
CITRUS REPELLENT: Cut a lemon into
quarters and place in a pint jug. Cover
the lemon with boiling water and let it
steep overnight. Next day you have a flea
repellent that you can use in a spray
bottle. Spray all over your dog
remembering especially behind the ears
and around the head generally (careful of
eyes), around the base of the tail (once
again keep away from delicate bits) and
under your dogs
"armpits."
AROMATHERAPY REPELLENT: Using 10 ml. of
Pure Almond Carrier Oil as your base, add
10 drops of Lavender Essential Oil and 5
drops of Cedarwood Essential Oil. Shake
well and use 1 or 2 drops [of this
mixture] spread over the skin at least
twice a week to keep the fleas away.
A flea collar can be made by rubbing a
few drops of one of the following into an
ordinary webbing or rope collar or even a
doggy bandana: Eucalyptus Essential Oil,
Tea Tree Essential Oil, Citronella
Essential Oil, Lavender Essential Oil or
Geranium Essential Oil. Dont forget
to do this weekly.
YOUR HOME: Fleas spend most of their time
in your furnishings and only hop onto
your dog or you for their next meal. Make
sure you wash your dogs bedding
regularly because no flea ever survived a
hot wash cycle. If you add Eucalyptus
Essential Oil to the final rinse it will
also kill 99% of house dust mites
according to research from the University
of Sydney, Australia.
Vacuum your home very thoroughly and
sprinkle a fine layer of ordinary table
salt over your upholstery and carpets and
leave overnight before vacuuming again to
evict your unwelcome guests safely but
dont forget to empty your vacuum
bag.
BATHING: A badly infested dog really
needs to be bathed so use your favorite
dog shampoo. Rinse the dog off very
thoroughly and in the final rinse add a
couple of drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil
or Lavender Essential Oil. An alternative
is to make your own herbal flea dip which
will also work on ticks. Steep two cups
of fresh Rosemary Leaf in two pints of
boiling water for 30 minutes. Strain the
liquid, discard the leaves and make it up
to one gallon ( 8 pints) with warm water.
Pour this mixture over the dog until
its saturated. Do not rinse off and
allow the dog to dry naturally so this is
a remedy to use on hot summer days.
INTERNAL FLEA REPELLENTS: Garlic may not
be your favorite cologne and its
not the fleas favorite smell
either. When your dog eats garlic, the
smell is excreted through the dogs
skin making your dog less likely to be
the fleas next meal. In case you
think you might need to give your dog a
breath freshener along with the garlic,
my dogs, Mack and Josh, eat a garlic
clove every day and I dont find
their breath smells from it at all.
Brewers yeast tablets will also
help to make your dog less attractive to
fleas because once again the smell is
excreted through the skin.
Adding a dessertspoon of natural apple
cider vinegar to the water bowl will make
the skin more acidic and unpleasant to
fleas and ticks. If your dogs dont
fancy apple cider vinegar in the water
bowl, dilute it 50/50 with water and use
in a spray bottle instead of the citrus
repellent. [Or, you can use natural apple
cider vinegar tablets.]
Thank you Amy for your suggestions!
